The Porphyropol – the ‘Purple Gate’ – is the main gateway through the walls of the Imperial Palace at Vostir. The primary arch is 40 feet wide and 50 feet tall, lined with lapis lazuli mosaic and closed with doors of magically hardened oak, bound with adamantium. Flanking the main gate on either side are the lesser gates, half the height and width: the Red Gate lined with granite, and the Blue Gate lined with basalt. The Porphyropol is guarded by a hand-picked company, the Emperor’s Musketeers, one of the most prestigious units in the realm, equipped with finely-crafted firearms and magically enhanced armor. Experts agree that the Purple Gate is the most magnificent such structure in the Empire, and rivals the greatest such structures anywhere in the world (according to some, it is only truly surpassed in the astral dominions of the god themselves).
The gate complex includes not only the gates themselves, but the barracks of the Musketeers and a number of buildings dedicated to the bureaucracy of Empire: guild offices, embassies, and many top-level administrators of Imperial rule. The Gate is where the rarefied atmoshpere of the Court meets the hubbub of daily life; most citizens and visitors never get past the Porphyropol complex, and they only need (or are allowed) to go that far if they have very important business.
